raisingchildren.net.au is the Australian parenting information website for early childhood. It covers all the basics about raising children from birth to eight, providing a comprehensive online child health and support resource for parents and professionals. It was commissioned by the Australian Government.

With over 10 million page views since its launch in May 2006, and over 100,000 unique visits per month, Australian parents and professionals widely consider raisingchildren.net.au the definitive online source for quality-assured parenting information.

The website’s up-to-date and research-based content is divided into five age groups: newborns, babies, toddlers, preschoolers and school age. It covers the following topics:

  • nutrition
  • development
  • behaviour
  • connecting & communicating
  • sleep
  • play & learning
  • health & daily care
  • parental wellbeing and family management.

Other features include:

  • My Neighbourhood – interactive maps that connect parents and carers with local resources and each other
  • Baby Karaoke – an animated karaoke tool to help parents and children sing favourite songs together
  • Parenting in Pictures – visual guides to key topics, such as newborn sleep safety, breastfeeding techniques and safe bathing
  • an A-Z health reference.

raisingchildren.net.au also features film clips from the companion Raising Children DVD, an interactive guide to parenting from birth to fiveyears. The DVD can be ordered via the website.

The consortium behind the website is the Raising Children Network, made up of the Smart Population Foundation, the Parenting Research Centre, and the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute’s Centre for Community Child Health at the Royal Children’s Hospital.
